Moving

Well I know that I said to expect things to be updated soon, but there have been some changes that will cause the revamping of the blog to be delayed.  I have finally been offered a job and will be moving 2 hours away within the next 3-4 weeks.  So my time is being spent looking for rental places that will allow my 4 dogs, plus in a safe neighborhood with a short lease.  We're going to end up buying a house there, but 3-4 weeks is not enough time to get that all done.

Needless to say, I may try to do some minor revamping in between my trips to the new city and looking at places or packing...but I make no promises.  Bear with me, 2013 will be the year of the regular blog posts.

Changes to come

Expect some changes to come to my blog in the near future.  I've started out by updating the "about me" and "pets" sections of the page.  I'm also going to be changing the design of the page, so that will probably be the next part that will change.

I'm in the process of writing a few blog posts that I will start to post within the next week or two.  I'm still deciding how I want to tackle everything, so there may be a few really long posts or several shorter posts.

I've recently returned from a trip to New York City for a writing workshop that I'll tell you about in another post.  I've linked up with some of the ladies I met there and we are trying to give each other incentive to keep our blogs updated.  I'm sure this will be good news to some of you who have lost hope in my ability to keep blogging.  Stay tuned for the updates.  If there is anything you want to see on here, please feel free to let me know.

Blog topics!?!

Ok friends, I need some help. I want to post about some topics that people would be interested in reading. I still need to post about the Nashville WWW retreat and graduation...but other than that my life is boring. Is there anything anyone would like to see on here or anything you would like to know?

And my foot is broken...

So I went to the doctor today to get a new referral to continue seeing my pain management doctor.  Stupid that I needed a new referral, but the military does whatever they want.  I mentioned to the doctor my concerns about my weight and not being able to go to the gym.  The equipment in the gym aggravates my back and then I end up whining to my pain management doctor that my back pain is getting worse.  I also mention that I've been having some pain in my left foot (it's been there for about 2-3 months but I figure while I'm there I should mention it).  She sends me for some lab work to test my thyroid and then for an x-ray of my foot, of course after she lectures me for wearing flip flops.  But hey I was getting a pedicure when I finished at the doctor, therefore flip flops are a must!  So as I'm finishing up my massage and going in for my pedicure, I get a voicemail from my doctor saying that I need to call them back.  The nurse tells me that I have a stress fracture on my 3rd metatarsal of my left foot...and I'm going to be in a walking boot for 3 weeks.  Oh forgot to mention...I GRADUATE NEXT WEEKEND!!!  Ugh this is Karma for A-me waiting too long to get it checked out, and B-for opening my big fat mouth a week before graduation.  :(  At least I got a great pedicure today so my toes will be pretty when I get my boot tomorrow morning!  I will also mention that as I was getting my lab work done (at the Army hospital) the lab tech goes "that was my fault" as he is sticking me with the needle and I feel shooting pain and burning feeling go from my elbow down to the wrist.  He then tells me that he hit something he wasn't supposed to, and that the Army hospital doesn't really try to save lives...they try to take them.  Not a fun feeling when your vein feels like it collapsed and the burning feeling won't go away.  The best way to describe it is if you've ever had a morphine pump after a surgery.  Whenever the morphine goes into your vein it burns a little bit, but goes away within a few seconds.  Multiply that feeling by about 20 and have it not go away...and that's how my arm feels right now.

On another note, the hubby is taking me to Kansas City for the weekend to celebrate my graduation a week early.  :)  My brother is gracefully volunteered his time to come stay at our house this weekend and hang out with the dogs.  I am donating my Durango for his use this weekend since his car is broken, plus I bought him soda, chips, bratwurst, hamburger, some charcoal and lighter fluid to have a BBQ while he is here.  Some of our friends live around the corner so my brother is going to hang out with them while he is here!  Yay for some relaxation!

Keep your eyes peeled for a post regarding the Wounded Warrior Wife retreat that I attended in Nashville April 20-22nd.  I'm still trying to process that weekend through my brain, but that should be posted sometime on Sunday!

Best and Worst weekend of my life

Love the catching title?  :)

So for those of you who are unaware...I live in Kansas (Insert obnoxious "Wizard of Oz" jokes now).  If you don't live under a rock and haven't seen any kind of news source over the last 3 days...we had a massive string of storms come through the midwest and produced 122 tornadoes on Saturday.  Of course 97 of those were in the fine state of Kansas.  Given that I am born and raised in Kansas, I'm not completely terrified of tornadoes.  I go about my day and hope for the best.  This is precisely what I did on Saturday.  My husband and I put the dogs up in their kennels and headed 1.5 hours south of our dinky little town to do some shopping in Wichita.  Not just any shopping, shopping for dresses for my graduations.  Yes the 's' is there on purpose because I have two of them.  I'll talk more about that later.  So we're taking our time shopping, watching the sky because we were unfortunately in the exact area that the weather stations predicted the bulk of the tornadoes.  Still I wasn't worried, just trying to find me some dresses!  We decided to stick around at eat dinner at this cute little Asian restaurant called Pei Wei, which is a sister company of P.F. Changs...and pretty amazing for half the price!

By the time we left Wichita it was around 5:30pm...and the storms were supposed to start hitting around Kansas between 4 and 5 pm.  As we are heading home we are listening to the radio and start hearing about all these damn tornadoes to our east...but only like 30 minutes to our east.  Whoops!  My husband takes a back highway home "because it's quicker" but in reality he was following the weather a lot better than I was.  I guess that's the California in him...a little afraid of those "naders".  We got home just in time to here that there is a tornado on a direct path to the town 30 minutes east of our town, and that they expected it to hit the south end of town in less than 30 minutes.  So we realistically had about 40 minutes to get into shelter and wait out the storm.  The problem with this idea is that we don't have a basement.  Why the hell does anyone build a house in tornado valley that doesn't have a damn basement???  Thankfully one of Kyle's best friends just bought a house a block and a half away from us, and they were more than willing to accommodate us and our 4 dogs.  So we got home and loaded up 2 of the kennels in my husband's pickup, loaded up the 4 dogs and me in my Durango and we all headed to our friend's house.  We stayed there from about 6-9 pm and had 2 tornadoes destroy quite a bit of stuff within 5-10 miles of our house.  The tornado sirens went off about 3 or 4 times during this 3 hour period of time.  Kyle and his buddy went to get some soda during one of the "breaks" and actually watched a tornado form and drop to the ground (this was 5 miles away from us).   We left and came home around 9pm after all the warnings had expired..only to have to return at 11:30 due to a few more tornadoes in the area.  It was around 1:15 am before we finally got home and started to get ready for bed.  The irony is that the exact area we were shopping in on Saturday was hit by a tornado in Wichita and did a lot of damage.  Also one of Kyle's coworkers was in a semi in Iowa that was hit directly by a tornado and thrown 300 feet (truck and him).  His truck was destroyed and he was taken to the hospital.  We're still not sure how bad his injuries are, but it looks like he might be released from the hospital this week.

This is the picture of the tornado that they watched form.  It was taken by my husband from his truck around 7:30 pm on 4/14/12.

Oh about the best weekend of my life.  I did not worry or think about school at all this weekend.  I stayed super relaxed and just spent some quality time with my husband and dogs.  It's not very often that I get to do that, so all in all it was very relaxing!

Wounded Warrior Wives Retreat-Nashville

As many of you know I went on a retreat back in December that was for Wounded Warrior Wives.  It was put on by Operation Homefront and the Wounded Warrior Wife program, which is program within Operation Homefront.  If I'm not mistaken, I believe Tri-West was also a sponsor of the program.  Well there are additional retreats occurring this spring.  I have been accepted to attend one in Nashville, TN in just over 2 weeks.  I'm really excited because I have never been to Nashville.  The retreat goes from Friday, April 20th until Sunday, April 22nd.  Here's the extra exciting part...I'm staying an extra night in Nashville because it was cheaper than flying home that Sunday.  So I'm looking for someone to entertain me Sunday afternoon/evening/night.

If anyone has any suggestions on something I should go see or do, or places to eat for that Sunday...please let me know!

Too many struggles lately

I've been looking for constant distractions tonight as an excuse to not work on my paper.  I'm having a difficult time just getting my ideas formulated and put onto paper.  I'm writing a 15-20 page paper about the use of cognitive behavioral treatment in family therapy with one of my clients.  I know this case like the back of my hand and really do not need any documentation to remind me what's been going on over the last 6 or so months.  The problem that I'm finding is that I don't know how to put my thoughts into words or coherent sentences that will allow me to get a good grade on my paper.  I have 7 pages written so far, so I'm roughly about half-way finished.  The sad thing about this paper is this is my "go-to" theory for probably 90% of my papers that I have written in grad school.  You would think I would be able to rattle things off and put them into a paper a lot easier than I am.  The paper is due on Tuesday...and yes I've had 2.5 months to work on it...but I work better under pressure (or at least I think I do).  The problem that I'm having is that I am trying to finish the paper by Friday night so I can spend my Easter weekend with my family and enjoy some time with my husband.  He's been really agitated lately because I don't have time for him between school, practicum, papers & homework, and him being gone during the week.  I really need to put forth some more effort to let him know that this is only short term stress.

So this is my  last week at my practicum.  I'm not going to lie...I'm really excited to be done.  I'm sad that I won't see some of my coworkers everyday, but I'm glad to be done working for free.  I can definitely say that I have learned A LOT from this practicum and the therapist that I have been working with has been phenomenal in helping me to develop skills and work on some of the areas that I have not been very comfortable with.  I still don't want to do therapy, but I think I have the skills to be a therapist should that be the only job I'm able to find.  Now I just have to finish out the rest of this semester, apply to take my licensing exam, take my licensing exam, and then start looking for a job.

Well I'll update more at a later time, must get ready for bed now!
