Love my dysfunctional family!

Seriously...this is what I originally planned to post about...but I got off topic earlier!  So tomorrow (well officially today now that it's 12:10 a.m.) is my momma's 47th birthday!  Happy Birthday Momma!  We had a big BBQ/birthday party today for Memorial Day and Momma's birthday.  I made two cakes since I knew there would be a lot of people there.  I'm super glad that I did because it was all gone in no time.  I'm just sad that I didn't get a picture of the inside of the checkerboard cake.  Here are the pictures of the two cakes.  They are a combination of a devil's food cake and a white cake.

I spent 3.5 hours working on these cakes for them to be devoured in like 10 minutes!  Oh well, I enjoy baking and it's relaxing for me.  I'm deemed the baker of the family because I'm always baking something for our family gatherings.  Ironically I rarely eat the things I bake, not that they taste bad at all, I'm just not a huge sweets person.  Mom loved the cakes, and so did everyone else.  It's nice to get recognition for something!  This was also the first time in over a year that all of my nieces and my  nephew were together for a family event.  My brother's children moved about 3 hours away with their mom, so we have only gotten to see them maybe twice in the last year.  So here are some pictures of the day!
